If the pictures fire you up to go there, start at Ambleside if you like people and shops, leave it well alone and go for Keswick if you like the wide open spaces. Then seek Borrowdale (down East side of Derwentwater) over Honister Pass, then stop at the top of Honister and start walking! Good boots and waterproofs essential.
