The River Derwent runs through the very lovely Borrowdale, and empties into Derwentwater. Only one lake in the Lake District is called "Lake" as the word "mere" or "water" is incorporated into nearly all the names. The sole exception is Bassenthwaite Lake. This takes the over-flow from Derwentwater, flowing West (-ish) and eventually still called the River Derwent, it flows into the Irish Sea.
