What a lovely picture of an old slate mine, complete with a view of old inclined planes which used to lower produce from the upper levels down to the "shops" for conversion to useful roofing slates, gravestones or whatever. One wagon went up as the other came down, thus conserving energy. This mine at Aberllefenni was still working in the late 70s when this photo was taken. The Talyllyn was built for just such a purpose, and is not far away - in fact there were at one time proposals for linking the Corris Railway to the Talyllyn.
