33101bas

33101 leaves Basingstoke on an Exeter train in the exciting time when the Class 47s were rostered, but were not up to the demanding route. Failures were common, and the smaller class 33s were often called upon to assist. Like daily! They did very well, too, and kept time remarkably well. Interesting fact is that class 33s were regulars on this route until the 47s were introduced !! Now the class 33s are all gone from the main line from the Southern lines they served with distinction for so long! Several are on preserved lines, however.
