Here is the
harbour at Folkestone. The arches carry the railway line which used to take
trains to the busy cross-channel ferries, to France. Now the "Tunnel" has taken
that away!
Here is a view of Kent - from the little village of
Goudhurst. Hurst means a clearing in a wood, and nearly all of Kent's villages
have names indicating their origin. Kent was once one vast wood, with outcrops
of iron-ore which they used the wood to smelt into cast-iron and pig-iron.
