Here is another view, I like it because
it shows something of my orchard, also. I was intent on trying to produce fruit
here, because that's what they did when the farm supplied the Abbey, hence its
name. "Bal.." means "Fermtoon" or farm township and "mesh" is reckoned to mean
"supplier to the Lord of the Abbey" or as some suppose, it means the mashing of
fruit to make drink, like Mead.
The field looks a bit of a mess - this is
because the outgoing farmer promised to reseed the field, and did so, but with
mostly weed seed! He admitted that the "seed" was sweepings from the floor of
the seed mill! Result - lots of weeds, growing lustily until some sheep were
introduced. Thank you Neil, the sheep have done a wonderful job, and are still
doing so in areas we are still reclaiming.![]()
